Svaneti and Racha — two mountain regions of Georgia that over three days open up as a great journey through the glaciers of the Caucasus, ancient towers and winemaking villages. The road runs through Mestia, Ushguli, mountain passes and high-mountain valleys, where panoramas of mountains and glaciers open up.
The trip is accompanied by a certified Georgian guide who tells the stories of these places and the life of the mountain regions. Over three days the route covers a huge part of mountainous Georgia and gives the feeling of a truly great journey.
On the first day we leave Batumi for Svaneti, one of the most impressive mountain regions of Georgia. Along the way views of mountains, rivers and gorges open up, and stops at beautiful points let you take in this journey.
By the evening we arrive in Mestia. We walk among the Svan towers and visit a traditional Svan house-museum, where you can see how people lived in these mountains for centuries and how their everyday life was arranged. We climb to a viewpoint with swings, from which panoramic views of the Svan mountains open up.
On the second day the route passes through high-mountain Svaneti with a climb to Ushguli, where ancient towers have survived and views of Shkhara open up. Throughout the day the landscapes change, and almost every point of the route offers strong, memorable views.
In the second half of the day we continue on to Racha, where we get acquainted with the region's wine tradition. The day ends in the village of Khvanchkara, in a Racha family home, with a tasting of qvevri wine.
The third day passes among the mountain landscapes of Racha. Along the way panoramas of forests, the Shaori Reservoir and ancient churches open up, and the guide tells the stories and legends of these places.
The main point of the day is the Nine Crosses mountain. The walk (900 m) goes through the forest and leads to the summit, where the Church of St. George and nine crosses stand. By local tradition, here people make nine wishes, and from the height views of the Tkibuli mountain ridges open up.
