Hiking in Mountain Adjara: Trails for Every Level

Mountain Adjara is one of the most beautiful and least known corners of Georgia. Beech forests, waterfalls, alpine meadows and old villages await those ready to step off the beaten path.
For beginners: Makhuntseti, just 30 km from Batumi. A 15-meter waterfall and a 12th-century arch bridge. A 1–2 hour walk, great for families with children. The road is paved.
Intermediate: Gomismta (1,200 m), a viewpoint above the clouds. A 3–4 hour hike up, or go by 4×4. In summer cows graze here, and the air smells of alpine herbs. Sunset from the top is unforgettable.
For experienced hikers: the Mtirala ridge, a national park with the highest rainfall in Georgia. Dense, jungle-like forests, rare birds and silence. The trail takes a full day; you’ll need hiking boots and plenty of water.
The best season for hiking is May to October. Bring a raincoat: Mountain Adjara is one of the wettest places in the Caucasus.
Our Mtirala trip is 60 €, Gomismta is 70 €. Transfer from Batumi and a certified guide included.
