Racha: 9 Crosses in 2 days
Khvanchkara village and the 9 Crosses panorama
About the tour
Racha is one of the most picturesque mountain regions of Georgia, known for its nature, ancient monasteries and the famous Khvanchkara wine. Quiet mountain villages, waterfalls and panoramas create the atmosphere of a real, unhurried Georgia.
Over two days the trip takes in waterfalls, ancient temples and the wine village of Khvanchkara, where you can taste wine from a family cellar. It finishes with the climb up Nine Crosses mountain, where by tradition people make wishes among panoramas of the Racha mountains.
Itinerary
Day 1
On the first day we leave Batumi for Racha. The road runs through mountain valleys and picturesque parts of western Georgia, with waterfalls, panoramic views and unusual natural formations along the way. One of the stops is the village of Lailashi, a place with a rich history that still has an old Jewish synagogue and an open-air pool with natural mineral water.
The highlight of the day is the village of Khvanchkara. We visit a Rachan family for whom winemaking has been part of life for many generations. The wine is kept in traditional underground qvevri and opened right in front of the guests, giving a taste of the real wine culture and local colour.
