A well-packed bag is half the battle. Georgia is a wonderfully varied country: a single trip can take you from beach to mountains to city streets. Here is what you will definitely need.
Documents and money. Citizens of most CIS and EU countries need no visa. Carry some local currency (lari) in cash — card machines are absent in mountain villages. Bank of Georgia ATMs offer the best exchange rates.
Clothing. For Batumi in summer: swimwear, a light dress or shorts, and something smart for restaurant evenings. For the mountains: trekking boots (essential!), a warm mid-layer (fleece), a rain jacket. Orthodox churches require covered shoulders and knees — a light scarf does the job.
Medicine and extras. Sunscreen, insect repellent for mountain trails, motion-sickness tablets (mountain roads are very winding). European plug adapter (type C/F). A power bank — signal and charging points are unreliable in the mountains.
Most importantly: leave room in your bag for homemade wine, chacha and churchkhela. No one leaves Georgia empty-handed.
